Platform Engineer

Position Summary

Bonsai.io (a company of One More Cloud, Inc), is an expert technology firm specializing in crafted search solutions for communities and businesses across the world. Our core product is Bonsai, the world’s most reliable managed Elasticsearch + OpenSearch platform designed to help teams deliver amazing search experiences for their users.The Platform Engineer writes code that bridges the gap between software and hardware and tests the system so that it runs effectively and smoothly, and is responsible for the design, automation, and maintenance of the company platform environment. This position will work closely with the other core team members to build, test, automate, scale, maintain, troubleshoot, and support the company’s high-scale platform for managed search.

OMC (One More Cloud) is building SaaS products like Bonsai, across the globe and across infrastructure providers. We are a tiny team focused on building high-leverage software systems that solve big problems for our customers.

We are looking to add an important technical contributor to our organization to help lead and implement our cross-cloud distributed platform that supports multiple SaaS products. Great candidates for this role will have many years of experience with modern cloud infrastructure, distributed systems design, and some experience in production writing Rust programs that participate in such systems.

Experience you should ideally have

5+ years building complex distributed systems
5+ years owning & managing infrastructure with a major cloud provider
2+ years leading projects & design of distributed systems and API platforms
Lots of experience creating, debugging and safely modifying networks, including load balancing, traffic routing, TCP/UDP, SSL/TLS, firewalls & IAM
Working with customers directly and feeling a sense of urgency to deliver for them
Working knowledge of ETL, data warehousing, and batch & stream processing
Some experience using automated security scanning tools safely on high-load servers
Some experience creating applications in the Rust programming language

Experience you will gain (or is amazing if you have it already)

Building, modifying & operating Elasticsearch or OpenSearch clusters
Building packages, modules, closures and shells with Nix
Running production systems on NixOS
Using Kafka as part of distributed system to circuit-break load
Using Cassandra to store large amounts of columnar data

Physical Demand and Work Environment

Employee’s primary workspace will be their home, or rented office space if they choose.
Occasional travel (1–4x per year) to Austin or other location in North America will be required.
Must be able to sit or stand at a desk for up to eight hours a day.
OMC’s physical office in Austin that the Office Manager maintains is well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.

Work Hours/Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week
13 company holidays per year
Metered PTO without specific limits; flexibility & regular PTO encouraged
On-call rotation (varies)
