Customer research

Paid research: How does your team know if search is working?

We’re paying product owners $50 for a 30-minute conversation about how they measure search quality, and what bad search costs them. You’ll talk with a member of our product team. No one from sales joins the call, and we won’t add you to a sales list or email sequence without your permission.

  • Thirty-minute call at a time that suits you
  • Anyone running Elasticsearch or OpenSearch on any host
  • Gift card or donation as a thank you

What’s on the call agenda?

Where do you go when you’re researching search tools?

Search results, colleagues, forums, vendor docs, something else. We want to know where you actually look.

What constitutes great search in your mind?

Click-through, zero-result rate, relevance judgments, support tickets or gut feel. All of them count.

What does bad search cost you — money, customers, orders?

Lost orders, support load, engineering hours. How you put a number on it, if you do.

What’s in your way to building better search?

The measurement you wish you had, and what gets in the way of building it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a Bonsai customer?

No. We want to hear from current customers and from teams that are evaluating Bonsai or running Elasticsearch or OpenSearch anywhere.

Is this a sales call?

No. The interview is research, and nobody will pitch you during it.

Do I need to prepare anything?

No. If you track search metrics, having them in mind helps. If you're a customer, the Query Logs view shows what Bonsai already records about your searches.

What happens to my answers?

They shape what we build into Bonsai's search tooling and docs. We won't publish anything that identifies you or your company. For background on how we think about relevance, see Winning the Relevancy Game.

Will I hear what you learned?

Yes, if you'd like. Once we've finished the interviews, we'll send participants a short summary of what we heard about how teams measure search quality.
